Research Interests: Plant fitness is fundamental to sustainable agriculture. It ensures the supply of agricultural produce for human and animal dietary needs. Yet, agricultural production is frequently lost to diseases caused by pathogens. The Robatzek lab's interest is to understand how plant immune signalling results in effective defence against pathogens and how successful pathogens overcome plant immunity. The lab focuses on the regulation of plant-encoded immune receptors and investigate mechanisms by which pathogens can suppress immune signalling. The group also addresses how plants achieve microbial homeostasis not resulting in disease, a fascinating aspect given that the plant immune system has the potential to recognize microbial patterns of both pathogens and commensals.
