Subject: Learn about the "Plant and Algae Transformation Support Facility" plus other assistance we provide

Abstract: Our facility offers multiple transformation services to assist the GLBRC researcher. Along with traditional Arabidopsis thaliana and Brachypodium distachyon plant transformation, we have successfully transformed Amaranthus hypochondriacus, and Camelina sativa. Our latest undertaking is the transformation of Sorghum (variety Tx430) and Medicago sativa (Alfalfa, variety Regen-SY). We offer algae, i.e. Nannochloropsis oceanica, transformations. We maintain and transform RIKEN Arabidopsis T87 cell cultures, and we keep an independent T87 cell line that can produce secondary cell wall structures. The T87 lines have been shown to be highly susceptible to Agrobacterium-mediated transformation, generating substantial quantities of cells in just a few weeks. Finally, as a general service to the research community, we also keep Tobacco BY2 cells growing and available to labs upon request. We have consulted and collaborated with many scientists to expand our transformation repertoire to meet their changing needs and will continue to do so.  We are now funded by PRL and GLBRC core facilities and can do your experiments at no charge to you. Please contact us and let us discuss how we can help you advance your research.

As a separate item, we assist in many PRL activities that involve; general use equipment, purchasing of new equipment and the storage and disposal of old equipment. We maintain the inventory of all the large PRL equipment and can assist you in finding equipment that you may need for your research. Please contact us if you are having equipment needs or problems, we are here to help.
