What is MPG Cure?
The Mutant-Phenotype-Genotype (MPG) Course-based Undergraduate Research Experience (CURE) aims to integrate scientific research into the curriculum, providing all enrolled students with classroom-based research opportunities. By bridging scientific research and undergraduate education, MPG CURE seeks to broaden research opportunities, foster the next generation of the STEM workforce and contribute to scientific advancements.

Science Project
The MPG CURE was originally developed based on the discovery of a plastid lipase gene, PLIP3, in model plant Arabidopsis. This gene leads to plants having an increased level of jasmonic acid (JA), which inhibits plant growth and makes unusually shaped leaves. The project uses plants that overexpress PLIP3 to identify new genes which encode enzymes or transporters involved in JA biosynthesis.
