This summer, the MSU-DOE Plant Research Laboratory kicked off its Summer Research Experience, a program designed to bring students to Michigan State University’s campus and participate in plant research.

Gutter Ball returned on June 12, with Tony Schilmiller claiming his fourth championship.

Researchers from across the Michigan State University plant science community, including from eight PRL labs, participated in this year’s Science Festival on campus.

Researchers from the PRL Vermaas lab participated in Girls' Math and Science Day, an event designed to encourage young girls to pursue scientific interests.

The MSU-DOE Plant Research Laboratory Community Building and Outreach Committee participated in the inaugural MSU Detroit Early Honors Experience, a collaboration between Detroit Public Schools Community District and several departments at MSU. The day PRL participated in was focused on teaching Detroit high schoolers plant science concepts and research techniques out in the field.

Three groups from the MSU-DOE Plant Research Laboratory participated in the 2023 MSU Science Festival. The Community Building and Outreach Committee, the Vermaas lab and the Sharkey lab volunteered to bring PRL science to the public at the university’s annual festival.

In June 2022, plant cell wall researchers from around the world were able to meet in person for the first time in three years at the 9th International Cell Wall Research Conference in East Lansing, Michigan.
